Cold morning 4-point
« on: November 22, 2008, 03:51:20 pm »

I think this morning registered in the low teens which is pretty cold for Tn. Pappy offered me what we call the "Honey Hole" stand this morning and it proved to live up to its name. This 4-point came by me at 15 yards for a broadside shot and I put a good double-lung hit on him using my hhb bow and cane arrow. He ran about 100 yards. He field dressed 113 lbs.  He was the fifth deer I saw this morning which also happened to be the opening day of our rifle season. I'd much rather do it with a selfbow! ;)

And a honey hole it must be :). Congrat's again - hopefully I can pull that off around Thanksgiving..

Good shootin Greg!  I need me one of those "honey hole" stands. Only the way I shoot, they need to be about 5 yards. ;D
See you in a few days :)
Be thankfull for all you have, because no matter how bad you think it is...it can always be worse.

Well done Greg.  I thought you'd score last night.  As I drove home from Pappy's I saw 7 out in the fields eating.  Glad you got one.  I didn't see a thing this morning but my stand was particularly cold today   >:(

Good job, Greg! I took a nice doe out of that stand a few years ago...it really lives up to it's name! It would be a perfect stand if the seat wasn't so low... ;D

Awesome primitive kill Greg! I'm with you 100% on doing it with a selfbow! Unbelievable feeling of satisfaction.

Sorry for the delay of reponding...I came home after checking the deer in, picked up some stuff I forgot to carry and after posting headed back to Pappy's for more hunting!  ;D Just got back today for a couple of days with the family for Thanksgiving and then back for more hunting. Can't thank Pappy enough for letting me hunt!

Thanks Cowboy, hope you have luck hunting over the holiday!

Shannon, you shoot better then I do from what I saw last May...look forward to hunting with you in a couple of days!

Thanks Jimmy, it was a little on the cold side this morning (Tuesday)with the wind howling!

Thanks Dana, we rarely get a chance to hunt in the snow here...

Thank you Brownhillboy, good luck hunting!

Thank you Hawk, I enjoy your stories!  ;)

Appreciate it Chad, wish you weren't so far off and could hunt with us. As for that seat on the "Honey Hole" stand...as Pappy told me, "I didn't set that stand up for you, I set it up for me!". ;D

Thanks Ryan, I got #4 the next morning after the 4 point.  :)

Thank you Stickhead!

Thanks Dan, yeah I'll hunt the Honey Hole stand anytime...

Thank you Marius my friend! Yeah that was #3 for the hhb...also known as "three deer". ;)

I appreciate it Tracy! Hunting with primitive equipment means watching deer walk by just out of range that would be a easy shot with modern equipment. It's not just about taking an animal to me, if it were I'd use a rifle and be done with it.
