deadfall success!
« on: November 17, 2008, 04:16:35 pm »
I was kinda bored yesterday as the afternoon was passing and waiting to go hunting and i looked outside and saw about 6 squirrels gathering acorns and the light bulb went on.  So i walked outside with a knife and picked up a rock around the house and an extra piece of junk coral for extra weight and made a quick figure 4 deadfall, and stirred the trigger stick in the peanut butter jar.  I have never really bothered to make one of these before so i just wanted to own the simple skill. so i came home from work today and success. so now i have some squirrel hide lashings and tail for quiver decoration and if i can catch another for tomorrow, maybe even some squirrel in the crockpot.- Ryan

Now that's pretty cool! Maybe a deadfall line on the way to your hunting spot? Might be a good way to leave the woods and not be empty handed... ;)

Here you spent all this time building bows when all you needed was a rock and stick ;D Too cool!

Awesome kill Ryan,

If you're in a survival situation, traps are the way to go.  you could be off doing other things, making more traps and the trap will be "hunting" for you.  It doesn't get tired, it doesn't get impatient, it just waits.  And when an animal trips it.....SLAM!!  You've got food.    I made a Paiute deadfall once and baited it with tuna fish.  It had about 65 pounds of rocks on it and 2 days later a possum was crushed by it.  When I lifted up the rock it was only about 1/2" thick!!  YEAH!!
