A likely source of the "shimmery stone" would be the mica here in the Black Hills. It's in every streambed and is finer than most glitter you would buy and twice as sparkly. It's pretty easy to pan it out using a novice goldpanning technique. (lotsa people think they are pulling ounces of gold an hour only to find it ain't nothing but all natural organic stripper dust!)
