Triton,
Easy to sort. Those who contribute an equal share get to divide the wood into equal sets and give each set a number. We then run a raffle and you get one of the piles which we have all agreed are a fair share.

Well it must have been for a reason, but that is as Hartung says not the subject of this thread and no I won't divulge why but I have no ill feeling towards Hartung he is a decent bloke sometimes these things just 'happen'  and is always welcome back.

Cheers

EU directive:

I do not know if this does apply Britain in practise, but round wood requires official paperwork for kiln drying certificate, or
it will be conficated by customs. I think they want to block plant diseases at EU border.

You wouldn't want kiln dried wood for bow making.

Well, that is some really nice Yew! Tight growth rings and looks prety clear from the pictures.

Now I would never buy kiln dried Yew but I have some good supliers of other hardwoods here in the Northwest that supply boat builders and they only take there wood down to arround 9 - 10% moisture content. It only causes problems when most woods are lower than 7%.  I've made some great bows from kiln dried wood and never had any problems.

Re finding yew in the uk
Timber importers often supply yew boards eg wessex timber- I've also collected a lot of bow staves in various locations eg lay-byes; derelict gardens; cemetaries and the garden of the local bishop who allowed me to coppice several thick yew stems from his overgrow yew hedge . I hope this information is helpful
