Hickory backed Ipe. Another full draw added

After 3 failures on the tiller tree I have, at last, got a backed bow that is a shooter.
This one is hickory backed Ipe; 62" ntn, 1 1/2" Perry reflex on the form, 1/2" reflex when unbraced.
I was trying for 48# but, due to my lack of experience with both rasps and Ipe I ended up with a weak spot about 2/3 of the way along the lower limb; by the time I had balanced things up the bow came in light at 40#.
I had trouble getting the limbs bending at the fades and would welcome all comments before making another attempt.

ps Isn't it strange the way that the yellow dust from Ipe turns pink when introduced to soap on hand washing?

Looks good to me too, kinda hard to tell with a canted full draw picture, but hey after three failed bows this baby is perfect.

Red Dwarf, From what I see this bow looks pretty good. Especially considering its your forth bow.

 Ipe can make really fast bows but isn't aways the best for beginners since limbs are so slender, and wood removal has to be more precise. I recommend getting good with a scraper since rasps tend to remove too much Ipe when getting close on the tiller.

ya igree with rich, scraper much better than a rasp with ipe, however from what i can see in the pics looks good.

could you get a full draw pic where the bow is more vertical,it would show tiller much better.

question for ya, you said the ipe has a yellow dust,never seen that before. ive made about 4 boo/ipe bows and the ipe dust has always been brown.are you sure that the yellow dust is from the ipe?

and whats with this thing you call "hand washing"?  lol

Nice bow! The tiller looks good. A straight up fulldraw would make it easier to see though.

Sailordad Ipe has a yellowish green dust that you can see taste and also feel as it burns your nose and makes your skin itch!!!!!

Looks good to me ,from what I can see,what is your draw ? If it ant to long you could always cut in down and inch or so on each end and pick the weight back up,then tweak the tiller a little.A straight
up full draw pic. would help. Very nice job on your 4th bow.Wished my 4th turned out like that.

I like it! Tiller looks great to me but its hard to tell 'cause the scenery in the background is so damn lovely. Could you please post a picture with a blank wall or even some trash cans or junk cars in the background. All I can think about when I see the lake and those hills is going hunting.

I will try to post a vertical full draw pic tonight.

Although this is my first "sucess" with a backed bow I have made a half-dozen self bows before trying wood backing.

That looks good to me, even if it did come out light. I've yet to get a lam to tiller, my first two attempts never made it past glue up .

It looks pretty darn good.  If you want to get a little of the weight back you can cut 1" off each limb tip. With that wood combo you are safe doing it. It looks fine and you can also just shoot it and start another one.  Justin

  Like Justin said , you could make it heavier, but I I'd just shoot the heck out of it and get a perfect matched arrow for the 3-d meets.. Maybe go wider like 1 1/8th outside the fades and a slightly thicker backing if you want a bit more poundage/zip..

Do you live in BC? At least thats what the scenery looks like..

Yes Rich, I am in the Kootenay Region of SE B.C.

I think I will just shoot it as is and will have another try at the 48# mark.

Should I go for a similar tiller or should the tips be moving a little more?
