Little "Cupid" osage bow

Here are some pictures of my little osage bow I call “cupid”.  It’s 52” nock to nock, maximum width is 1.25”.  It bends through the handle and draws 54# at 26”.  Maybe because of the deflex in the handle area, it does not seem overstrained at this draw length and hasn’t taken much set.  It does stack some but string angle is pretty good at full draw for such a high draw to length ratio (50%).  It’s a zinger and I was amazed how little wood can be used to make a strong osage bow.

Do you think if more strongly recurved the bow will have less stack?

I think the recurve allows a longer draw because it improves the string angle at full draw.  W/o the recurve, the string would want to slip right off as the angle would be at least 90 degrees.

I do plan to make a "big brother" to Cupid, probably a whole 60" or so and about 60# at 28", and use a caul this time.  I bent this one freehand.

Rich, I'm in the process of making a 60" bend through the handle osage static recurve. I have the tips bent, a bit of reflex added to the stave and will start tillering soon. It still needs a bit of heat straightening but I will wait until I get to a low brace height. I used dry heat and oil on the tips and they recurved fine over my form.     Pat

Nice Bow Rich....I love the North American Bows myself.........I do think that the left Limb could use a little tiller work still though.... got a couple of stiff spots that could be working more....JMO

Good, looking bow, but Cupid?

Cupido use scything reflex bow. That is deflex with recurve.
