Finished my bend in the handle boo backed ipe!
« on: June 29, 2008, 01:37:43 pm »
This is my first bend in the handle bow.  She is a bamboo backed ipe,62" NTN, and draws 40@27.  She has elk antler tips and a built up leather grip.  I'm getting really good at these 40 pounders.  It wouldn't be so bad if they weren't intended to draw 50-55.  I had some limb twist issues with this one early in the tillering stage and had a time working it out.  I think it could bend a little more in the fades, but shoots really well so I'm leaving it.  Luckily, I have a good buddy who needs his first traditional bow.  Perfect for him.

i had the Underweight problem a bit too...have you tried shooting for 60# and settling for 50#?  Also, are you still thinking of quitting your day job?  Once you can tiller a bow out to the desired draw weight every time, that would be a more realistic idea.

Aint nothing wrong with a 40+ pound Bow....they are just as deadly....and a whole lot easier to be Accurate with too!! Nice job....I like it....especially the Antler Tips....tiller looks good to me.........

Nice looking bow, but for a bendy handle bow I like em bending a little more through the handle area, your a little stiff there yet.

I agree with Dano. Not enough bend in the handle area, other than that it looks really nice!

Ryan, I agree, and at 29" it would be fast. Marty you are learning fast..I usually tiller 58" bows like this to 30" or so..I hope your are gong to Mojam..It's a lot of fun.and I will give you a piece of ipe which will open yer eyes..

Marty, a few more scrapes on the upper limb just outside the grip, and one or two on the lower limb..it is all about the details.

Keep it up! remember you didn't have to cut or dry this wood, and that is worth a lot..

Looking good, it does resemble a non bending handle tiller.  Your friend will be happy as Im sure it shoots quite nice.  Justin

looks great man. far better than my one and only.

the only things i see wrong is, like they said, no bendy enough handle.

and the lembs dont seem to bend the same. caint put my finger on it, but something aint quite right.  ???

anyhow, like i said. i aint got no room to talk, but overall great bow. one of these days i'll be able to do that. ;)
lets just shoot it
