finished first osage...finally!
« on: June 15, 2008, 11:38:17 pm »
Well here it is. I finally got it finished. I started this bow almost a year ago. I bought the stave at last years TN classic from Ridgerunner. I got it chased down to one growth ring and PatB helped me lay out the bow and get it roughed out at his Camp O Rama in July. I did'nt do much else to it for a while due to work and hunting season and other priorities ;D. I started whitteling on it this spring and I took it with me to the TN Classic this year and got it tillered and shot it in the self bow challenge. When I got back home it has took me awhile to get caught up on things around but I finally put the finishing touches on it. It is 64 inches nock to nock and 56 pounds at my 27 inch draw. I know its not perfect but I'm pleased with it and it shoots a arrow pretty hard. Let me know what you think, good or bad. I'm already thinking about that next bow ;). Oh yea I almost forgot I flipped the tips on it a little, thanks for the help on that GregB ;). I also added copper head skins to about 6 or 7 inches on the end of the limbs and deer antler tip overlays to the tips. I'm having a little trouble posting the pictures so bear with me. A couple more pictures and I'll be through. I'm about to get the hang of it. Oh yea I put about 7 or 8 coats of tru-oil on it and a floppy rest.

That's your first bow???

Congratulations. I think you've got it.

My first was a yellow stick and a string (but I did get it finished in less than a year  ;D)

Nice job.

She's a real beauty, Scott. Everything about it is A-1!!! I like the way you skinned her also. When the osage begins to darken the color combo will be stunning. Great job!     Pat

ps, bring her to the camp-o-rama and we'll drink a toast to her...and the bowyer!!! 8)

Congrats on a very fine bow. A real keeper! Not to mention an heirloom for some proud relative years from now.
Bookmarked, too, for June Self BOM.
