Should I harvest this?

A lot across the street had some ranch style homes that were demo-ed for greater density, but then the market droped.  I think this tree has been dead about a year.  Its about 5" at the base and over 5'6" to the branches.  I'm not sure the species.  Does it looks like it would make a fair stave or two, or does the bark say otherwise?  Thanks for your help.

I don't recognize the specie. If it were in the humid east I wouldn't bother because of rot but in NV its hard to say. Cut it and split it and see what you got.     Pat

      Regardless of species, I think you cut that tree and you will unleash the tipping point on global warming. Think that looks like the only tree for miles eating CO2.  ;D

Go for it! Its in the desert so I think lots of thin growth rings and slow growing years. Might be prety dense wood.

 If the tree is dead what could it hurt to harvest and make use of it. I say go for it. We often think of dead wood as being no good and already well into the decaying process. However if you havest it soon enough it sometimes is well cured and can be great wood.
 i have a Juniper bow that I'm working right now that is from the central oregon rondevous. It was a dead limb with a few drying cracks in it. So far has turned out great and held togther. Didn't have to wait for a drying period  ;)

that is funny...if it has no greenery, it doesn't transmute CO2 to O2 anyway...

Go for it....if it doesnt have Spault from Fungus....which it shouldnt there....I would try it....

If it has been dead for a year it probably isn't any good for bow wood,but I would cut it
and see,if not a man need fire to,looks like it would make some good Brat wood. :)

That looks like a pretty tough place to be a tree-kinda resembles the surface of the moon.  :) Somebody must have forgotten to pour water into that little pipe-spout thingy sticking out of the ground.

Thanks all.  I'll be cutting it down.

I just did not want to waste my efforts if the bark indicated problems.  I appreciate all the comments.
