 Hard to tell if its ipe, there are a lot of tropical woods that look and smell like that. Whatever it is, it looks to be a nice piece, and is a worthy candidate for a backed bow.  Ipe is usually a bit heavier, 1000kg/m3. I haven't used much ipe, I do still have a couple of boards left, so I will have a look when I get a chance to dig them out of storage today.

So I’m pretty sure the wood is Indian Laurel, found a bowl blank that looks the same that is labelled and it matches the density. Ah well.
