Turbo! Longbow
« on: June 03, 2024, 06:31:56 pm »
I know its on the edge of being primitive but showing you my new bow. Made a few of them over the past 6 months and let them test and shoot by friends. Now hope people will like it when I present it at our local bow fair. Hope to bring a few fg guys back to natural material. Basically my ASL Hill-Style template with plenty reflex. It's my actual bowyers-dream come true. I just call it Turbo! Good thing is, I can make these now fairly quick and easy, almost flawless and hit drawweight. Really happy and proud of that. This one is bog-ash, iPE, maple, black locust and horn. Light version. Its not the first time using Bog-Ash in a laminate - still find it very astonishing that the wood, after so long time, still preserved the mechanical properties to keep a bow together!
cheers
Simon

no thickness taper apart of the boo willie! You want to see it hinge fade to midlimb after glueup. rest is being tillered by hand.  8) buffalo horn. most of the tillering is mainly done by the sides and fine tillering by bevelling the belly edges some. With horn even a mediocre tiller is good enough. Critical part is the boo, if you do not sinew. horn is more kryptonite than wood. But sinew would slow it down and create handshock at that length. I have a thickness sander and can get my lams pretty precise. that helps a lot. By changing woods in the grip area I can vary physical mass from 430-600 gramms. Made them up to 45# drawweight. 50# should be possible safe. Wouldn't bet for much more (without sinew) - its maxed out. But my goal is to make lower drawweights shoot well.
thanks dave!

Simon beautiful bows as usual. I haven’t tried putting that much reflex in the center of the limbs. I bet it is maxed out. With reflex in the middle like that how is the hand shock. What are the reports from the shooters? Again very nice work on the bows.
Well I'll say!!  Osage is king!!
