Del's Scoop Back Yew Primitive
« on: July 06, 2023, 06:54:25 am »
This Yew stave had a ridge of heartwood peeking up through the sapwood potentially making one limb way too stiff.
I could just de-crown it or scoop out the belly, but I decided to scoop out along the ridge to maximise the remaining sapwood.
47#@28" (target weight 45#). 64 3/4" ntn. Just shy of 2" wide at the widest.
I made it for a guy who I met at a field shoot a few weeks back, when I was shooting one of my Yew primitives.
The knots on the grip were filled with horn to match the tip overlays... it was suggested by a well known contributor, who for the sake of argument we'll call Mike  ;D
3rd Pic show the bow inspector at work... it got her seal of approval ;D

Beautiful bow del.  I’m amazed at how resilient this wood is to groove out a section of sapwood lime that and still get it to bow. Amazing

That is a beautiful full draw Mr Cat. Can certainly see why it got the inspector’s approval

Followed this build on your channel. Beautiful bow.  Very creative. Always enjoy your content, Del.

I am glad her EMinence approves.
