Maple with a bendy handle
« on: May 21, 2008, 09:21:52 pm »
Here's a maple board bow that I just finished.  It's 63" ntn, 1 1/2" wide at the "fades", tapering to 1/2" nocks, trapped back.  Draw weight is 50# @ 28"; cast seems about average.  She started life a 68" stiff handle bow.  Somewhere along the line, the glued on handle riser popped off.  I never got around to putting it back on.  So, I just piked it 4" and left the "handle" the way it was(7/8" x 3/4").  After tillering was done I built up the handle with several layers of cork.  You can't really see it in the pics, but the grain has some minor tiger striping to it.  Also, she has about 1" of string follow so far.

It's from a flat ringed Home Depot hard maple board.  When I say the cast is average, I mean average for my bows.  I don't have anyone else's to compare them to.

Outstanding.  I just love that style of little round flatbow.  Great job.  Great bow.

Looks darn good. jcougar has been around for awhile. I've got pictures of him on my computer at a younger age. Same great talent, though. And bookmarked for May Self BOM, for sure.
