Which material for the tillerstring?

First: Happy New Year to all of you

I just had a discussion about the "best" material for a long tillerstring, which ended without a right conclusion.
Is it fastflight or dacron55 or something else?
To be honest, I started with a paracord and ended up with a handsome bow…

Because I'm bowbuildernovice, the why is more importent to me, rather than the what.

It really doesent matter as long as it has not too much stretch and is strong enough. Dynema stuff is great. I'm using old lines from my kiting gear.

I tend to use B-50 for tillering strings, it is cheap and I have a lot of it. I switch to D-97 when I start shooting in the bow.

I have a paracord tillering string I use early on , just after floor tillering then I use a B-50 or B-55 tillering string with either one loop and a bowyers knot or the same with a bowyers knot on either end. Once I get to brace I make a string for that bow. I use B-55 for that and pre stretch it as I finish tillering and sweating the bow. All of my bow strings have a bowyers knot for the bottom limb.
 And all of my bow strings are B-55.

For long string tillering I use sash cord. I only long string to 10".
For tillering strings I use old bow strings of B-50. Got plenty of those

long string not that critical as stated,,,, if the bow is high poundage or reflexed,, I find the fast flight easier at first brace,,,,cause its low stretch,,

I use D97 16 strand for tillering and 8 strand on 50# bows.

Whatever material you use, I'd suggest making it overlong snd vary length with something like that 🙃 (bowyers knot tends to slip with ff material, especially if not thick enough)

Same here. I have an ugly pink D97 tiller string I've dragged around for many years. Wouldn't want to guess how many bows its been used on.

I tiller with B55 because it’s cheap, I have a lot of it, and it holds a bowyers knot so one string can accommodate many bows. I switch to D97 for the final string, because it’s a better string material.

I saw that kind of ringshortener on Del's Bowyer's diary - gues I'm going to adapte that - thank's for sharing!

As a result of the question materialwise, I would sum it and say: for longtillering the material is only limited to length and knotsavety, rather than material it self.
