Yew bow
« on: December 13, 2022, 01:09:31 pm »
Haven't made a bow in several years for various reasons, primarily motivation. This one is 70" ntn and 42# @ 29.5". The tips and grip backer are rosewood and the grip material is stingray leather. The finish is lemon oil/bees wax with several coats of Johnsons over that. I know the unwritten rules in regard to posting bows on here, but I don't have a full draw pic, so you will have to trust me on this one  ;)

I have to admit, Steve. Getting a nose full of wood dust felt great. My arms needed the work out as well. I could feel it in my arms I was pushing and pulling hand tools again. Mostly, I was just thankful that inspiration finally came back around. I cant build a bow because I should, or because I have to. I have to have the desire and vision in my head first. Otherwise its a train wreck and no fun for me.

A three year hiatus but it's still in your blood. Beautiful bow as usual for you, Pearl. Although, I gotta tell ya, I'm with Paul...we need a full draw, lol.

Glad to see you back here posting bows again Drummer boy.

Two bows with out full draws though. Better find a photographer or someone you can pull the string.

Doesn’t look like much scrap wood.

Awwww, the Little Drummer Boy is back! And just in time for Christmas!

Seriously, nice work as always, sir. As for the hiatus, machts nichts, don't mean a thing. Would you be a better person for making bows because it was expected of you? The human brain seems to be hardwired to seek purpose and sometimes we become trapped in a self-definition loop by that imposed purpose. Whether it is making bows, drumming, or working with raptors in my case. But that purpose is not immutable. If you find no joy, or worse, begin to dread or resent that purpose then you start to die inside. It's all right to walk away, whether it is temporarily or possibly permanently.

I am happy to see you post again, bow or no bow. I have missed your input and your unmistakable passion.

Doesn’t get any better than that. If there’s anyone we can trust without a full draw pick you’re on the list!  (SH)
