Best place to buy Osage?
« on: April 17, 2021, 02:21:05 pm »
Are there any reputable people that anyone knows to buy Osage from?
Why must we make simple things so complicated?

i definitely agree with HH on that. If you can buy from group gathering or meeting, that's when you should. You ll save on shipping and you'll be able to see the stave your buying with your own eyes.

It seems like the best volume osage stave dealers have a limited time to produce staves before they rigors of cutting and preparing staves takes a toll on them and they fade away.

This is an old picture of back when Mike McGuire and his dad were selling staves at Twin Oaks. This picture shows most of the staves they had for sale that day priced from $10 to $100 depending on quality.

Need we say more.

Still building bows with some of that wood. Cept now you better reach a little deeper in that pocket Eric.

Be plenty of high grade season pignut hickory here this year at Classic. Grown right here on farm. Come getcha maybe the last Twin Oaks hickory staves ever available.

I know for sure there will be a floor tillered , tempered super hook static Pignut available in the pile for sure. A HH & TO limited one of a kind.

I have plenty of osage, more than I will ever use but my stash brings out the hoarder in me so I won't turn any loose.

Just a fraction of what I cut years ago and still have.

Attending Twin Oaks could fix a fella up for staves of almost any kind.
Same here gut....It seems I sold most all my deluxe straight not twisted ones.On the comeback though.Retrieving some good bow woods lately locally.Finishing up on some of the nicest red mulberry staves I've ever seen.Resupplied the osage. The black locust is next.Got plenty of hickory.

Ed's comment just reminded me that I should tell you to not turn up your nose to Osage's cousin, the mulberry. I've turned out excellent performing bows from some South Dakota mulberry.

But the folks ain't joking when they say you should try to get to the Tennessee Classic.

Yeah, I've heard good things about mulberry.. none around that want to let me cut their fruit tree though. Mulberry makes a great pie :)

The wood?!  >:D(lol).  For beavers, maybe. :fp (lol) -C-!  Never tried the berries in a pie, the little seeds stick in my teeth too bad.  Tastes sort of like blackberries?  Couldn't resist!  I prefer blueberries!
