Are these scorches a problem?
« on: April 04, 2021, 06:35:06 pm »
a friend was heating some reflex into a bow she was working on and outer thirds on both tips got a little scortched. (this is hickory)

I figured it'd be fine but figured I should make sure..... she could sinew wrap it there or something if it was going to be a problem....

That looks like the back and just some wrap around heat from the belly...? Out near the tips where there is minimal bending it won’t be a problem with Hickory...Don

That does not look too bad. I assume you will be rounding those edges anyway, so I suspect that will make a lot of the scorch disappear. If it were in a bending portion of the limb, I might worry more. I think it will be fine.

Not a heat expert, but good to hear the ladies are getting involved!  How about showing the rest of the bow!

You must have something of a club down there.  I agree with the above.
