how to take reflex out
« on: February 24, 2021, 11:34:47 pm »
hey all

so on my white oak bow im working on i have a limb that recurves naturally at the tip and i want to straighten it out like to other limb, the problem is, how do i straighten it? i cant heat it while clamping it because my clamp would be in the way. is it even smart to try and take the recurve/reflex out since its natural? I cant remember really hearing about someone heating out reflex. is it gonna damage the belly? should i just add the same amount of reflex into the other limb?

thanks!!

If you can’t use dry heat use steam or boil it and clamp it straight. Shouldn’t be any issues.

I would think reflexing the other limb to match would a better plan, but I haven't tried either way.

You don't need the clamp on whilst heating??
Just set it in place, heat until hot enouih - then clamp with the use of a soft spacer.

Agree with Hawkdancer. Reflex the other limb to match.

How much reflex are we talking about? And how long is the reflexed tip?
