wedge in the handle

An ancient hornbow used a similar splice in the handle; the handle was essentially a wedge on to which the limb core pieces were spliced. It was reinforced laterally with bone plates.

The above was probably done with hide glue as well, pretty good stuff as centauries of use have proven.

Here is another of my glue fixes; my string came off one nock and split the other deeply into the limb at least 6". The bow sat in my junk pile for years then on a whim I decided to try to fix it.

I have shot this bow thousands of time since, no problems.
