I want to make backed ipe bows and wanted to ask what woods can be used to make bow backings
I know of bamboo and hickory but want to know if soft maple can be used and if ash can be used and any other possible woods

For ipe I'd want a strong tension backing like boo, hickory and maybe elm or hard maple.

Fraxinus excelsior - ash makes good backings. Acer saccarum - hard/sugar maple will also make a good backing for ipe.
Of course both should be the absolute straightest grained boards you can find.
