Congratulations to Ryan O'Sullivan of Waterford, Pennsylvania
Your Black Locust Long Recurve
is April's Self Bow of the Month
Ryan describes the construction of this bow this way:Here's a Black locust recurve I just finished up. Its 66" ntn 1 3/4" wide at the fades and straight tapers to 3/8" nocks. It was a bit of a character stave, not side to side, but front to back. It had three large bumps to deal with the center one I took advantage of and made a cool reverse style handle. The other two I tried to remove the best I could with heat. The one in the lower limb is now almost unnoticeble, the one in the top limb is more pronouced. It is backed with western diamond back rattle snake skins, and has a deer leather grip and deer antler tips. It pulls around 50#@28" I havent reweighed it since finshing it but its pretty close to 50#. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, and I realy like the way it shoots. Hope you enjoy!
