Oh no oh no oh no
« on: June 02, 2020, 10:32:15 am »
Oke so i was shooting my recurve bow and i heard a cracking sound. I checked the back of the bow and between the fades and mid limb there started lifting a splinter on a mini pin knot/ scar. Is this bow ready for the firewood pile? Or is It still fixable?

Is that colouration a stain job? Or is that the actual colour of the wood?

Is the problem in the handle area, and if so, does the handle bend?

It’s hard to see what’s happened but maybe you could sinew back it?

Ricardo, Does this bow have extremely thin rings?

I have fixed a similar problem with a localised rawhide wrap, that covered the back and belly at the spot, glued and stitched whilst wet.

I'd probably remove the finish on the back squirt in some superglue,, then back the whole bow with rawhide.

Sisal should work too.  Are you talking about string, or loose fibres? I think rawhide would be better though.
