Most of us started with the Gunsmith Of Grenville County. Bill Raby's videos on youtube are very detailed.

Another good read is Dixon's The Art of Building the Pennsylvania Longrifle.

Yup, I'm a new builder and I use the book gifford mentioned and I found Raby's video's hugely helpful for my trade gun build.
