I had the opportunity to give a presentation to the 1st and 2nd graders yesterday at the school where I work as a janitor. The kids have been learning about Native Americans and the Teachers were unable to find any Native Americans to come in to talk to the kids. They knew I had a interest in Living History and Primitive Skills so they asked me. I am not a Native American and was reluctant to give a talk about Native American history and culture. I did however agree to bringing in and talking about some items. I explained to the kids the process of tanning hides, buckskin clothing, moccasins, bows, arrows, quivers along with various tools. In the past I have talked with younger and older kids about Living History but this was my first time talking to this age group. Lots of ENERGY in those kids! It was a good time for me. Hope they learned a little and have a bit of appreciation into the skills of early Peoples like Native Americans.
I would encourage others to share knowledge if you are presented with the opportunity.
