Thanks, guys.   This knife has some significance to me since a friend gave me two full elk antlers and told me he wanted to see what I could do with them.  About a month later his heart gave out while he was out joggjng and he passed away.

I did come up with a method of sealing the pithy core that worked pretty well.

After shaping the handle scales,  i slathered the pithy parts with a slow cure epoxy.  Then put them in a Foodsaver vessel lined with plastic wrap, and used the Foodsaver to apply a vacuum.   After about 5 mins much of the epoxy was drawn in so I repeated the process.  This worked pretty well and the handle is nice and solid around the pith.

Seems like a neat idea,if you have a newer food saver.  I wonder if a vacuum cleaner would create enough to do the job.  Sorry to hear about your friend.
