Cascara is what it's called though I'm not sure if it's the scientific or common name.
On OSU's Horticulture website it says It's Rhamnus purshiana    [Cascara, Chittam] Joel

Also callled buckthorn.

Keenan sounds like your in Love ;D Good fer you man.

Sorry I missed that - thank you, Yooper. I'll have to check and see if that occurs here in NC, just for info (and maybe more - LOL)

Thanks Deerhunter and Yooper,  good luck on the search. The bark peels of real easy and is yellowish inside with a distinct sweet smell.  If your not sure if it's cascar just lick the bark and wait a little while >:D If you don't find yourself running for the trees it's not cascara :D :D

LOL - I think I'll pass on the taste test, Keenan - I've always been pretty easy to move and might not make it to the trees.  Check out my page on your lovely wife and her beautiful new bow.

I just love looking at your bows Dad!  You are so talented and it amazes me how beautiful they always turn out!  I like to get on here and browse when I miss you.  Thinking of you always!  I say next time we're in town, me you and Cody have a knapping party!
