Snakey dogwood character bow 45# 28”
« on: May 26, 2019, 11:27:00 am »
Here we go... Dogwood (Cornus mass), snakey character bow. 63” ntn. 580 grams, 1 1/3” set. My friend, skillfull gunman, asked from me very accurate bow. He spent his life in shooting and wanted special bow. I deicided to avoid struggling with arrow spines because he is new in archery so I made for him total centershot bow. As I expected, this bow reacts very well on wide spectrum of arrows of different weight and spine. Because that I had space to lower its brace height to 4.5-5”. I had some problems with some reflex and deflex spots on the stave, one deep knot but finally it turned out good. Some rotting damage stayed in the non-moving handle. It is 45# 28” but on full draw pic I draw to 30”, to test it. Responds best between 28-29”.

That's absolutely fantastic dude.  That handle is too cool. I'm sure the new owner will love it.

How many times have we heard..."will this make a bow?". The answer is obviously YES! Excellent bow from a very difficult looking stave.  :OK  Gonna be hard to top this one.

That is very cool! Did you make one side of each limb thicker to counter twist? I've often thought that a bow like that would be twisting almost as much as bending. Absolutely no doubt that it's centre shot :D

I love those "S" curve bows. Looks like no difference top or bottom limb. Great Craftsmanship. John

Gotta love that entire bow, starting with the handle.

Center shot indeed. That facing the camera shot is great. Cool bow.

Bravo Druid. That is one fantastic piece of artwork. My next bow build will be an effort to emulate your snakey piece of dogwood.

Thank you all, my friends, I am glad you liked it. I will try to continue with bows like this. 😌💪🏾
DC, yes, I had to use irregular limb cross section to stop twisting but it was not very complicated. Some kind a straight longbows sometimes made bigger twisting problem than this bow. Slightly change of limb thickness lead to good balance. Limbs are not equal length so it made it more interesting. :D

Again a work of great elegance. Those staves are rare, but I know it is a challange for us - and you did an awesome job. Mighty fine pics too!
