allibates folsum
« on: April 09, 2019, 11:16:30 pm »
I was gifted a chunk of allibates so I sawed it into slabs and worked one of the smaller pieces tonight.
I am from now on in love with allibates. It's kinda tough to work and I left an island of saw marks on one side because my flaker was bending under the pressure it was taking to get flakes.
I was concerned with the crystal pocket near the base because I been breaking so many ears off lately, but it held and I still got both ears so I'm happy.

What technique are you fluting with?
There are no bad knappers, only bad flakes

I used a Solenberger jig for the flutes

That is nice! love those flutes. I've softened Alibates up with some heat.
