2nd annual "Assault on the Tsolum"
« on: February 03, 2019, 11:09:23 am »
Fun times yesterday as Sabb(and daughter), DC and I got together for our second annual flight shoot. Sabb works at a dairy farm and the fields are fallow this time of the year, so we had full run of a large parcel to loose arrows with little worry of anyone or thing being bothered or potential safety issues(although we had to pause for a few ducks to fly by 8)) We had several self and backed bows to shoot, and over a couple hours managed to wear ourselves out with the shooting and walking back and forth. Our guest to the shoot, Gregor, a 6' knight dressed in armor and may be affiliate with house Lannister was present, enjoying fine wine and cheese, as arrows buzzed him all afternoon, until one mighty shot by me upset his day with a 175 yard shot to the arm!

I was shooting my Osage selfbow and my yew elb style bow. My longest of the day was with the elb, about 200 yards with a hunting weight arrow, not too shabby. Don wixed us all with a shot of 255 yards with his boo backed yew recurve, and knitting needle light arrows. Sabb brought various new bows and had fun trying my heavier longbow.

These are the kinds of shoots that really make me happy. No competition, no scores, just fun times. Getting to see several bows by other bowyers, and watching them fly with no regard for the backstop, is joyous. Along with stumpshooting this unstructured shooting with likeminded folks is what fuels me!

Thanks for the pictures Blayne. I broke out the protractor and none of us are close to 42.5°. It was a fun day. 255 yards is my PB. ;D ;D

That looks like a great time. I agree, getting and shooting purely for enjoyment and camaraderie is the best.

It's just a flesh wound...wow, that looks like fun (for the archers).  I wish you guys were my neighbors!

Sounds like a fun time!  Might have to try one of those shoots out on the Grasslands some time!  Got to get the bodkin so ready, though! >:D
