Del's Bad Boy Boo Yew
« on: January 14, 2019, 07:10:45 am »
This is a scaled up version of Twister my regular self Yew field bow. Yew heartwood billets backed with boo...
A mere 120# @ 31"  :o  ::)
75 1/2" ttt
1 5/8" at its widest
On some of the roving shoots that my mate JT goes to people have started using glass bows which can out shoot the heavy warbows on the end of day flight shot. So, seeing as how I had some nice heart wood billets and some boo I made this bad boy. It got a good work out on Sunday and shot a flight arrow 345 yards (strong tail wind).
It took a tiny hint of string follow but is back where it started this morning.
I made it with a hint of deflex reflex and if you look at the grip pic you'll see where the billets join and a thin overlay between those and the boo just to add a hint of deflex look in the grip area.
the nocks are Elm, they were just the temporary nocks, but I liked the clean simple look so I just cleaned 'em up.
Del
PS I can't draw it... it's my mate JT in the pic'

Nice bow!  A bit over my draw weight, though!

Holy moly, my heaviest bow is 60#, 30 arrows through it and I feel my chest mussel next day...
Nice clean bow!
The billets were boards?

Holy Cow Del - you'd need to be on steroids to pull that bad boy!  Cool bow to be sure - but I pulled a muscle in my brain just thinking about drawing it!

That is a bad boy boo Del. Nice bow. I'm sure glad I don't need that heavy of a bow for hunting deer. It'd require two of me.

The wood from from a log that got from a landowner, the sap wood was chewed up by his chainsaw, so I just used the heartwood.
It was only a short log, so it became billets. there were some that had sapwood and bark too.
They were the op pair in this pic.

I can only draw it about 6", my days of pulling 100# are long gone, but it's fun to make 'em and watch 'em being shot.
It's a symbiotic relationship with JT... I make 'em, he shoots 'em  ;D
