Strings

I was just reading Simpsons website and noticed that he is only using six strands of BCY 452x. Anyone else gone this route?

That's the stuff I use Don.  I usually use 10-12. Does he double serve? 6 seems a bit small to me. Cheers- Brendan

Yes, he doubles serves and pads the loops with a few strands of B-50.

I use Spectra or 8125 instead of 452x. And I use 10 -15 Strands. 6 Strands are enough but to "hot" for my fingers.

i exactly followed simsons advice and do 6 strands of 452x until 50#. @ the middle wrap i underlay another 6 strands of dacron. feels good and fast. cheers

I used to use 6 strands a long time ago on bows up to 60# but now prefer 8.

I use 6-8 strands of fast flight in an endless loop string. I pad the loops and nocking point with a few pieces of some old B-50.

   I use 10 only because I prefer to shoot bare finger. If I used a tab I would use 6 strands.

I have a recurve that Simon made for me for the Christmas a few years ago. The string is very thin, I don't know how many strands. I typically use B-50 so Simon't string feels like sewing thread to me.

I just read in the "Recurve Fundamentals" link that Willie posted that losing 2 strands of string will gain, on the average, about 1 fps. Not enough to change a string over. Enough people are down to 6 strands to think about it in the future though. Thanks for the input.
