Take down osage

A friend of my son was admiring a take down sleeve made by Jim Davis and decided to try and make something similar. This young man is not an archer, but a welder by trade. He welded the male and female parts to some pipe and here you have it. He made me two so I gave the first bow to him. He is hooked, and actually a pretty good shot. 62", 50# at 28"

Nicely done Rps3. Nice that the first one went to your son's friend. Good way to get him hooked. Do you have any pictures of takedown sleeves before you put them on bow?

This 1929 handle by James Duff was my inspiration.

And here is a picture of mine.

I'm not thrilled with mine, because the tubing I used makes a fatter handle than I like. Otherwise, it's nice.

bj, your son's friend used materials that are more easily available, thereby making the whole process more doable for most people.

I'm wondering if a person could maybe use a rectangular tube instead of round pipe? Maybe like 1"x 1 3/4". Might make a handle shape that would be narrower and feel better in your hand? Could maybe even build up a bulb under wrap with cork.

Like Upstate a takedown is on my to do list.

bj, I can't think of a reason that would not work. The one difficulty would be that the limbs could not be rotated for exact alignment when gluing them in...
