Wind Hover
« on: June 27, 2018, 04:10:22 pm »
Osage Orange, scrap belly split with a bad wind check, 55" nock to nock, drawing 15 lbs at 25".  This little mouse hunter is named for an old nickname of the winged angel of death for mice, the American kestrel. Kestrels are famous for facing into the wind and hovering over a field seeking mice.

That's real nice... I'd rather make a 50# than a 15# those little bows take a lot of care and attention.
Cool name there JW :)

Nice one!  :)
The name fits perfectly, too! Did you make it for someone specifically or did it just turn out that way, because it was just a sliver?

If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

There is a conspiracy theory that the real John was taken out by a mysterious international hit squad and I assumed his identity. Even posting this could be an attempt to muddy the waters and cast aspersions on the conspiracy theory.  I'm not sayin', just sayin'.

What the heck do you think I was doing???  After chasing wind checks and hinges up and down the limbs I finally hit tiller at this weight! And I call THIS a success, brother.  You should see the collection of grips with fade-outs fading out into no limb at all!!!

Sweet, little stick, JW. Good to see you scraping wood again.
I have gone through a really bad dry spell where my eye just cannot seem to conjure the right perspective.  Consequently, I am not touching any really serious projects.  I have done a few crappy board bows and this leftover scrap to build up confidence.

Nice one!  :)

Yeah, the kestrel is kind of a "thing" with me.  This was not made with any kid in mind.  Now I am just hoping the right kid in the right situation comes along so that I can get rid of it. I am sure as heck not going to shoot it, I shoot even less than I build!!!  Better to find a good home for the bow, right?  Anyone have a candidate they would like to nominate?

And thanks, Pappy, Swampy, Parnell, Bob, Jerry, upchucknybowyer, Jawge, and DVS.
