Sawmill blade knife
« on: April 07, 2018, 08:49:44 pm »
A friend of mine is a millwright at a mill locally. When I had my last replacement surgery he cut a bunch of blanks out with the plasma cutter and brought them to my in-laws. I think they were from trimsaw blades , all I know is they get real hard.anyway I cleaned one up and ground the bevels in , then got it heat treated. It's in the toaster oven now

Are you going for a "small bowie" look here?

Good looking start.  Looks like your "forge" can double for grilling steaks at a somewhat cooler temperature! (=) (f) (f)! Lol!

Well I cleaned up the blade , then drilled the pin hole and did the ferric etchant dip. I anneled the tangto drill it and still couldn't get a hole in it so I used a carbide ball Burr to do it

Not sure if it is correct info, but some one told me those titanium bits go through any thing, but thet ain't cheap.  Is that real tough steel?  Or was the annealing not quite right, or both?

I have had blades that titanium bit struggle with, but carbide, carbide will take a bite out of most anything. It was annealed properly but I didn't happen to have a titanium bit handy anyways
