Sounds good Hoosierf, haven't made pear wine in years. The bow sounds good as well.

Well guys she came out of the form perfect, cant remember the R/D measurements. The belly and core were two slices from the same board so you have to look close to tell its a trilam. The riser I steamed to fit, I cant explain whats in my head but I think it will work out great. Sort of a pistol grip feel without that carved riser look. If you look at the pics you can tell what I'm going for.

I think I must’ve done a pretty decent job of floor tillering when I shaped this out. I did a floor tiller check, it looked good so I low braced. That looked about right, so I went to a high brace and I think it looks pretty good. I’m thinking it’s time to heat treat and start working it back.

I wouldn’t say I’m good at floor tiller, just got lucky on this one.
I didn’t pull it very far yet as I don’t have my tree set up. But I checked the weight with my stick and hand scale to get an idea of where it sits. It’s pulling 30# at 12”. So probably not far off of 50-55# at 20”. So perfect place for heat treat. My forms are still at my parents so, heat treat will have to wait.im gonna try to even out te reflex when I do.

Maybe its been waiting so long its been tillering its self. It really wants to be a bow, it might want to come home to N.C. to. Black locust was the top bow wood around here.

Well guys I got the handle on and cleaned her up. That steam bent riser worked out well, my hand naturally goes to the sweet spot, driving finger dead center of bow, I like it. I need to put a lil more slope in the riser fade, its not as abrupt as it appears to be in the pictures.  So far so good start tillering tomorrow I hope.

I just thought of something. The humidity has been high for awhile so I should probably make sure this thing is good and dry before I seal it up and start tillering. I bring it in at night but better safe than sorry I guess.

Pictures below are where my piece of elm is at right now. I'm close but trying to correct for sting alignment has proven more difficult than I had figured. tried steam and heat gun. seems to keep creeping back same old same old after a few days. I never had this problem with black locust before.  About 3/4 of and inch off from where I need to be. Going to set it aside for the week or so, to think things over on this one. I have found it better, when I run into issues, to stop and think on it for a few days. Always gives me better results.

Not going to be sitting idle, I have way to much fun with this hobby even if things don't always work out.  Below is also a picture of a locust and osage staves I got in a week or so ago. Dry and ready to go. Never worked with osage before.   Seems to be a great stave. Hope to get a ring chased and see how far I get this weekend. Mike
