flip tips, tiller, back with rawhide.....in what order?
« on: March 26, 2008, 12:05:35 am »
I'm starting a 57 inch red oak "board" bow that I plan on flipping the tips and backing with raw hide.  I was planning on tillering a little, then flipping the tips, then glueing on the rawhide (titebond), then finishing tillering.  Is this the correct order?

I'd tiller to brace height, then heat bend the tips and add the backing and finish tillering. The closer you get the bow to final demensions, and tiller before you heat bend it the easier it will bend for you. Be carful bending the tips red oak boards won't take a extreme amount of recurve, it will split out on you especialy if you leave it to thick.
