I Need a Whip Stitch Glis
« on: December 15, 2017, 05:17:53 pm »
OK Glis Glis here is what I have so far.
I kinda stole BJ's tail pipe scraper idea. O:)
This drain pipe worked OK. Real good on the hands. :)
While I fleshed I left some vent holes >:D
I degreased with a rag full of soapy dish soap
while on the board. Then after a bit I applied a solution
of two heaping table spoons of lecithin granules, one
egg and a quart of luke warm water. Now I am typing ;D

Get those wee folks down in the shed to do it Oh, I see---- They then would wear it as a fur coat. )P(

Looks ready to turn and stake, then put in smoke column for several beverages >:D!
Hawkdancer
Btw good solid whip stitch punch holes - start in second hole, back to 1st hole, over to 3rd hole, back to second, over to 4th, repeat until done.  Imbibe be rages as needed.

Great Glis, glad you noticed thread.
Ok to continue ;D

After I soaked and brushed the hide on fleshed side I let it set for a bit.
Turned periodecly so gravity could help penetration.
After an hour or so I took my kindling ax and hammered the pelt.
Kinda like meat tenderizing and pizza dough spreding.
I then wrung the hide every which way but loose. It's hagging in a cool
place for a bit while I type. When I go back I will wring the hide then
return it to the board for another beating :KN >:D

Well I left mine on the shop floor to thaw and hopefully have the elves skin and scrap it but it was still there in the same spot this morning. Had to skin it myself.
Looks good Zuma

Zuma,
Those are instructions for left handed stitches >:D!  Right handed stitches are the opposite ;D :).  Beverage may be held in either hand, or one in each hand, but not while performing actual stitching!
Do be careful of the be rages, however!

BJ as the old saying goes--"You just can't trust the help these days"

Ok to continue  O:)
I went back twisted and stretched the hide It was very supple so I did
not re board and beat it. :) ;D I was wearing heavy duty rubber gloves and I think
their bite against the flesh side started to pull hairs through the skin. ??? ??? :'(
When I do it again I will use bare hands. I am hoping that as the hide dries more
this will not occur again??

Perhaps Glis but I took a file to make sure the edges were rounded on the hachet.
It didn't seem to harm it at  all. Unless it has something to do with the hairs comming through.
Hard to tell.

Well it's a week and after stretching for a few more days
I hung the hide in the garage for a few more. It was cool and dark.
It is still pretty supple but no where near pro work. This is a much
more prime fur than the one I did before. Since I didn't wash the entire
hide with detregent like I did the first, it is a bit more ripe. I may give it
a shampoo. The hair is tight so far Time and the flies will tell if I did
good or not. Balanced out the wall.
