Yew shorty, really shorty
« on: April 14, 2017, 02:22:29 pm »
I saved this short but clean little piece of Yew from the chipper at my local highway department. It's 41" ntn and pulls 57# at 22". Shortest bow I've ever made. Shoots very fast, but hard to control.

The tips are whitetail antler from Greenriverwoodcraft
finished with tung oil

You got that tiller nailed down, looks good. Don't feel bad, I cant shoot those herky jerky shorty's either. I need a full draw to even start to shoot accurately.

Those little bows are punchy... when I shoot 'em, I punch myself in the mouth :-[

Really neat bow!  Yew grows in NY?  I'll have to get my pops scouting for that too LOL.

Thanks again guys. Yeah, we've got Yew here. Most of it's Irish Yew, but English Yew is a popular ornamental tree. We had a huge windstorm a couple weeks ago, and when the huge pines and lindens came down they took out a lot of smaller ones with um. My buddies at the Highway Dept. always keep a look out for me and throw all the straight looking Yew in a pile off to the side.  :OK
