Something other than cane
« on: April 02, 2017, 06:12:20 pm »
At Moon Tree this year stixnstones gifted me 12 wooden shafts.  After I got them home I noticed that these were not your ordinary shafts, tight grain, no run outs and very straight.... super shafts.  They were within 5# and 10 grains of each other.....Thanks stix's!!!! ....where did you get these and what kind of wood is it!!?

Well I got started on them this weekend ...... nock tapered the 11/32 to 5/16 and got a stain and one finish coat on them.  Planning on using white nocks, 2 white and a yellow/orange cock feather.  I'll thread wrap the fletching and use your typical glue on points.  Hope to get them done in the next week or so......
Here's a couple of pictures so far....

Looking nice Bill. Did you taper the last 9" or so from 11/32 to 5/16?

Thanks Guys....

DC, I just put the light color on one end and the dark on the other and work the dark color towards the light...
Paul, yep the nock end about nine or ten inches....
TSA, I like ugly arrows too as long as they shoot good...:)

Going to add another coat of finish tonight and then add the nock and start fletching... tomorrow
Thanks again,
DBar

Your going to love matched sets of parallel arrows Bill, its hard to beat their consistent flight and accuracy. What spine are they?
