Cherry bark
« on: March 26, 2017, 01:42:22 pm »
I collected a bunch of cherry bark and clamped it between two pieces of plywood for a couple of weeks. With no air circulation in there I figured it wasn't going to get any drier. When I took it out it curled up. If I just leave it can I rehydrate it before use? Does it ever get crispy or will it stay flexible?

My meager supply is years old, and while it's flat now it is still pliable.  No crispy phase, though it would still need some rehydration I think.

Thanks, all the heavy snow we had this winter brought down quite a few Bitter Cherry trees. I got a few pieces that are 33" long.  I don't want to mess them up. :D

I like to boil the bark for 5 or 10 minutes then clamp it and dry with a hair dryer. Seems to stay pretty flat after that.  :)
