Bamboo Backed Osage
« on: February 14, 2017, 05:32:46 pm »
Greetings PA. I  recently completed this D/R  66" 57#@28 Bamboo backed Osage with some broadband watersnake skins buffalo tip overlays.   This is my first time working with bamboo and  and boards and was a good learning experience. My first batch of Unibond 800 from 3R was defective and soon as it came off the form it started coming apart at the  glue joints although it did bind in a few areas which stunk, so i had to clean it all up and resand and level everything back up . I got some new Unibond 800 from nelsons and glued it up again. Its not perfect I tried the best I could to build according to Dean Torges Hunting the Bamboo backed Osage bow. She kept a good amount of her reflex after tillering and is a joy to shoot. Any comments are always encouraged thank you for looking.

Really nice bow Bob.You went through some trouble to finish this one.Skins are great too.Congrats.I too in the past have used Deans' form and book advice on making D/R BBO bows with success, but I really screwed the pooch on a maple backed cedar once that taught me some more. The BBO's usually ended up around 1 and 3/8" wide for me too.I went to smooth on for my laminates.

As I said on the other site, Great Craftsmanship.  Looking at the braced view. Is the upper limb bending a 1/4" more than the lower? I Have done that according to TBB. John
