Osage flatbow 45# @ 28"
« on: February 14, 2017, 02:38:59 pm »
A couple weeks ago I had a friend bring me an osage stave to build him a bow from. He wanted a stiff handle but the stave was only about 3/4" tgick after it was cleaned up. So he brought me a block of African black wood to build up the handle with. The block wasn't quite long enough to give a good fade transition and I didn't trust osage to black wood bond. So I glued an 1/8" hickory lam in between. I used the same black wood for the tips.  He also brought me a tanned snake skin that was dyed black to put on. The bow is asymmetrical with the lower limb being 28" to the nock and the upper being 29". I skewed it like that since there is a bug hole that I made land in the handle. I filled the big hole with dust from the black wood and super glue. The limbs are 1 3/8" parallel to mid limb then taper to a smidge under 3/8". It started with about 1/2-3/4" reflex and ended up dead flat after shooting in. It came out to 45# at 28". Right at the upper number of what we were after. It shoots very fast with a 600gr arrow. We're guessing about 150-155ish with a 13.3gpp arrow. But who knows without a chronograph.

Thanks for looking,
Kyle

Full draw will come when the guy picks it up. I'll snap some pics before he leaves.

Another beauty. Your friend is going to love it.

Beautiful lines on that bow,and the accent colors are really nice too.Very low set.I'm sure it's a sweet shooter and he should like it.I did'nt see the length of the bow mentioned.

Thanks for the compliments everyone.

I got a full draw for ya now. Now that I see it in hand and not in the reflection of my truck. I'll say I'm pretty  content with the bend.

I forgot all about the length. I just gave the bow away, so I can't measure it, but I remember all the ther dimensions. If I remember right it's 65" nock to nock. He loved it, I look forward to hearing some updates from him in the future.
