Pacific Crabapple

This is my second Pacific Crabapple bow. It's 66" NTN, 43#@28". Chew hoof tip overlays. The handle is a pigskin(I think) leather jacket piece that I put on inside out so it looks like suede. I wrapped the ends with upholstery thread. Finish is  3 coats of Varathane Plastic Oil. I heat treated it but then tillered most of the brown off. Not sure how much treating is left but it returns to dead straight almost immediately. Shoots around 165 with 10gpp arrows. I seem to be stuck on 165, I'm having trouble getting by that. I walked by a lot of Crab when I was collecting OS but I won't any more. It's real nice wood. It has a ripply back, sort of like HBB but not high enough to cause any problems.

Hey, nice!  I think apple is fantastic stuff, if you can find a piece without wildly twisted grain.  Most I tried had tight barber-poles all the way up.  If that specie does less of that, you are on to something.

About half of it is twisted but the bark shows it quite plainly.Where I collect it is second growth fir and balsam so it has to grow up. There is quite a bit of it here.

Nice bow D.C. That full draw looks real sweet. Crab apple is definitely on my list to harvest staves of this summer.

you could get past it with a smaller fast flight string,,and maybe a bit more practice on your release:)

I use 10 strands of FF now. I thought of going to 6 but then all my arrow nocks would be to big. I guess I could beef up the center with 4 strands before I serve it. I tried drawing about 3/4 full draw and then quickly going to full draw and releasing. That got me  bit more speed but my consistency stunk. I decided that I would just shoot with my normal draw and release and get more consistent results.

165 fps @ 43 lb is wicked speed for that light of weight bow seems to me. If that was my bow I would be ecstatic @ 165 fps with hunting weight arrows , awesome job on that one. Impressive DC
