Finnsh Laminated bow
« on: February 05, 2017, 07:05:59 pm »
Hi

Has anyone made a laminated Finnish bow with Birch on the back and compression pine on the belly with siyah's on the end?  I am researching this type of bow and I am interested to find out how the animal glue was protected from moisture in the past when my sources say that birch bark covered it, what would have been used to keep the birch bark in place and how would the siyahs have been attached?

Quite like having a go at this project but need to learn the basics of this design first.

Lots of info on Paleoplanet. Few seem to make authentic replicas due to relative difficulty in finding materials. Some sources say the bark was  " attached by a special method without glue".  Which doesn't help much.

Siyahs were glued in place with a wide variety of joints.
