Big and tall Osage bow
« on: January 08, 2017, 11:18:25 am »
I haven't built a bow for awhile, so I was getting the itch. A friend asked about a bow for his son who is a good sized kid. He wanted something in the 30" draw range in a hunting weight and I decided to leave it on the overbuilt side. I picked a stave and cut it down to 70" then began chasing a ring. The bow was laid out with 1.5" parallel limbs to within 10" of tips then straight tapered to a little under a half inch. The build was very straight forward and in no time it was shooting and ready for dress up.

I went with Cipriano WDB's and wenge tips. 10 strands of D97 and wolf fur string balls from Patrick. Added the leather handle to make it comfortable in the cold weather and this thing is a joy to shoot! Ended up pulling 60#@30" with almost no handshock.

God Bless!

Beautiful bow Scott.  The skins, the handle, the finish, everything fits it perfectly.  That should make a fine hunting weapon.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Thats my kind of bow, I can see that thing shooting where I look from here. It had to be somewhat of a challenge getting the string to ride perfect along those long skinny flipped tips.

Yep I have a set of long cane arrows that are 700gr. They fly really well out of this bow.

Thanks for the comments. I took a page from Clint's book and sealed with rim sealer. Kinda like the way it turned out.

Now that's a bright yeller stick!
Turned out very nice, Scott. Like the lines / profiles. And the hole looks cool.
