Elm D-bow with static-recurve tips (pic heavy)

I've always had trouble with Elm until this one. I think I finally just found the right piece. The inspiration came from Mr. St. Louis.

Looking good. You've been cranking those bows out like a boss!

If you want my constructive criticism, when you think your bow is finished and ready for skins/finishing etc., put it down for the night and come back to it. Start the sanding process all over again from 120 grit or so up to 220.

Your tillering is doing very well and I think the area you can improve is overall finish, particularly the tips. I find that I notice finishing on the handle and tips the most because I grab the, the most often. Rarely do I grab a bow midlimb .... because there's just no reason to while stringing/shooting.

Thanks Ben. For me, the constructive criticism is the most important reason for posting these bows. Don't get me wrong, positive feedback is great, especially from folks who know their stuff.

You're perceptive cause taking my time on finishing is new for me. I spent so long figuring out how to make a strong enough bow that doesn't explode, that by the time it was done, I felt finished. But seeing all the mind-bogglingly beautiful work on PA has made me realize that the finishing touches are a way to say, "Yes, I have failed more times than I can count but none of it was in vein because this one kicks @#$!"

Great job!  I like the feel of a leather cord wrap handle and have done a couple that way.  I know what you mean about finding the right piece of elm.  Most elm will make a bow, but there is a lot of disparity in the quality.  When you get a piece that really wants to be a bow, it is something special.  That one looks like a shooter to me.
