Osage pure straight stick 57#/26” (No.83)
« on: December 01, 2016, 12:46:57 pm »
I'm working on some fumed osage bows at the moment. Some straight, some statics - here is one of these, more will come.
Only little heat gun correction for balancing out, no heat treatment. All the colors are from the fuming process (five days) and the tiller scraping after fuming. An additional ring on the back works as natural nock overlay (cutting through the back!). Arrow mark is a little brass nail filed flat, no more stuff on the bow except some oil. Circular tiller with semi stiff tips, reflex is natural. Slightly narrowed handle. Very springy shooter!

specs:

57#/26”
brace height: 5¾”
Lost 1” during tillering, now net 2½”.
Length 54½”
width/depth at handle   26/16mm
width/depth at max      31/13mm
width/depth at nock kerf    6/13mm
mass:            403 gram = 14,2 oz

Very nice looking bow.  I really like the simple, clean look of that.  I might borrow the brass nail idea.

My kinda bow Simon. Should have good cast. Shame on you for cutting nocks across the back. Everyone knows you can't do that!  ;)

Yeah, and you're not supposed to drive nails into your bows either!  Beautiful work as always - that looks like it would be fun to shoot.

Did you actually drive the nail in or did you pre-drill a hole? How far in does it go?

I was just trying to be funny with the nail driving comment...surely it's predrilled (although drilling holes in bows is a wee bit outside the box as well).
