Working on a knife...
« on: November 18, 2016, 12:19:51 pm »
New guy moved on to my road last year, built a cabin and survived the winter, complete mountain man down to the flintlocks and traps covering a cabin wall. This year he built an actual nice big cabin and I was up seeing if he needed help and we struck a trade. Obsidian knife for hide tanning lessons! So here's where the knife is. I'll add more as I go, gotta work and try getting a deer! Haven't cleaned up my hinges yet
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short. Amen.

Sounds like a interesting neighbor, you guys can probably learn a lot from each other. Nice knife I'm sure he'll like it.

Made some progress. Filed in a notch, filled it with pitch, and just wrapped it with plenty of sinew- maybe too much. Tomorrow I might poke at a couple hinges and sharpen it, then for a display!

looks nice...I would always finish blade completely before marrying to handle for future projects.. much easier to work without handle...I glue handle with gorilla glue...since it expands it fills all gaps nicely..I wrap with artificial sinew since water or blood will cause real sinew to turn loose.... gut
