Osage longbow with timber rattlesnake skin (Thanks Pappy)
« on: August 30, 2016, 08:17:52 am »
I recently completed this 66" Osage longbow.  It is 1 1/2" at the fades and carries this width halfway down the limbs, then tapers to 1/2" at the tips.  I used antler for my tip overlays and an artifical sinew stitched leather handle wrap.  It pulls 58# and 29".  I had to heat treat this bow at least 6 times to remove the twist and get the string centered on the handle.  I like how it shoots and it hits where I am aiming. Finished with 10 coats of Tru-oil.

I want to thank Pappy for the advise on skinning and applying the skin.  I was very pleased how they turned out.  I welcome your comments, as this is just my third successful bow.

Thanks for the help Pappy.  ;)  I'm trying to resize and post my full draw picture.  Hope to have it up shortly.

Looks like it needs to bend a little more out of the fade forward on the left limb.

Maybe a bit whip tillered, but if it shoots nice, I wouldn't worry about it.  Heck, it is Osage.
Otherwise, it looks really nice.  Congrats!

+1 a little stiff in the upper limb past the fade, but looking good and finished up.  I like the skins a lot good job.
