The challenge with those types of wood [Hickory/Elm] is keeping the dry while I am building, after that making sure it is good and dry before sealing. Once sealed no real problem with as Pearl said just a little
extra care. Store it in a dry place unstrung when not being used. They usually get 8 or 10 coats of tru oil
and some times Turtle wax them if I know they are going to be out in really bad conditions for an extended amount of time. A lot of folks don't take the time to care for them but I have done it for years and treat all my bows with care.
